Balanced problems on graphs with categorization of edges

چکیده
Suppose a graph G = (V, E) with edge weights w(e) and edges partitioned into disjoint categories S1, . . . , Sp is given. We consider optimization problems P on G defined by a family of feasible sets D(G) and the following objective function: L5(D) = max 1≤i≤p ( max e∈Si∩D w(e)− min e∈Si∩D w(e) ) For an arbitrary number of categories we show that the L5-perfect matching, L5-a-b path, L5-spanning tree problems and L5-Hamilton cycle (on a Halin graph) problem are NP-complete. We also summarize polynomiality results concerning above objective functions for arbitrary and for fixed number of categories.

متن کاملFurther results on total mean cordial labeling of graphs
A graph G = (V,E) with p vertices and q edges is said to be a total mean cordial graph if there exists a function f : V (G) → {0, 1, 2} such that f(xy) = [(f(x)+f(y))/2] where x, y ∈ V (G), xy ∈ E(G), and the total number of 0, 1 and 2 are balanced. That is |evf (i) − evf (j)| ≤ 1, i, j ∈ {0, 1, 2} where evf (x) denotes the total number of vertices and edges labeled with x (x = 0, 1, 2). In thi...
متن کاملApplication of n-distance balanced graphs in distributing management and finding optimal logistical hubs
Optimization and reduction of costs in management of distribution and transportation of commodity are one of the main goals of many organizations. Using suitable models in supply chain in order to increase efficiency and appropriate location for support centers in logistical networks is highly important for planners and managers. Graph modeling can be used to analyze these problems and many oth...
متن کاملDC-Based Approximations on Graphs
We now return to the one basic design paradigm we skipped in our discussion of approximation algorithms for NP-hard optimization problems, namely divide-and-conquer (DC), and apply it to problems on graphs. The basic idea is as follows: Find a balanced cut of small capacity, i.e., a cut in which both sides contain roughly the same number of vertices and such that few edges cross the cut. Ignore...
متن کاملRemarks on Distance-Balanced Graphs
Distance-balanced graphs are introduced as graphs in which every edge uv has the following property: the number of vertices closer to u than to v is equal to the number of vertices closer to v than to u. Basic properties of these graphs are obtained. In this paper, we study the conditions under which some graph operations produce a distance-balanced graph.
